I got a pair of black leather driving gloves for Christmas to go with my Jaguar XKR. The gloves’ fingers are too long, and I was considering cutting them off after the first knuckle to make them more functional. Is this a reasonable modification or too Mad Max?
I prefer to have the leather on the steering wheel, but for those of you turning wood or plastic, it is certainly permissible. Some driving gloves are fingerless, and they make sense for cars with switches and keyboards. Have a shoemaker or other leather expert cut and stitch them for you. It will make BlackBerrying and passenger-side acupressure application so much easier.
I stumbled onto an interesting debate at action publicbroadcasting yesterday. The question being debated is whether or not driving gloves gives you better control over the steering wheel when driving.
The consensus at the moment seems to be that for street driving it doesn’t make that much of a difference. Some of the repliers like the feeling of gripping leather while driving others say that the wear them to stay warm on cold days. Another even claims that they help with hand fatigue on long trips. what do you think? Do driving gloves give you more control?
